Our Herstory.

It all began with a desire, a calling, and a brunch at Residents Cafe & Bar in DuPont Circle. After a year of enduring with the complicated process of seeking medical help and scheduling the surgery to remove her 5" x 7" x 7" fibroid, co-founder Khaleelah I. L. Harris immediately sought ways to help her community post-surgery. During this journey, she wondered how she could help alleviate medical expenses associated with the uterine fibroids healing journey, and how she could raise awareness in the Black community.

After the co-founders met at an intimate brunch in late summer 2023 with Decor & Experience Co-Chairwoman Kelsey Green, they exchanged stories and the call to action to serve their community.

Inspired by her own work as a passionate wellness instructor for Yoga and Mindfulness Mediation, Griffiths sought Harris to co-organize an arts and wellness related event for the community. Inspired by the Black Maternal Health charity art exhibition of Tonya Wright, MD, in fall of 2023, Harris sought her new friend Griffiths to co-facilitate a Uterine Fibroids awareness event that Involved art.

The two returned to DuPont Circle to discuss their ideas for collaboration and begin planning over coffee at Kramer’s Bookstore, Bar, and Restaurant. However, by the time their coffee date was over the concept of a charitable organization that organizes arts and wellness related awareness and fundraising events was born.

In January 2024, The Beauty of Our Wellness and was founded and incorporated. This charitable 501c3 would hold The Beauty of Our Wellness Fund, a fund through which financial assistance is given to low income and uninsured persons with uteruses who have accumulated bills or cannot afford surgical solutions in the process of resolving their uterine fibroid related issues.
